2013 Baseball Betting Picks: August 24th

At this point in the MLB 2013 season, the best online sports betting sites know that many of the divisional pennant races have been decided. For example, it is highly unlikely that any team in the NL East is going to bridge the more than 14-game gap between the first place Atlanta Braves and the rest of the division. But the sportsbook agents also know that there are plenty of pennant and wild card races that are well worth watching. The AL East and the NL Central represent two of the better pennant races, while the teams that will lose those pennant races stand to fall into each league’s wild card spots. The action this weekend will be interesting to watch for fans from all over the league.

Saturday – Boston Red Sox @ Los Angeles Dodgers

The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays are in a dead heat in the AL East pennant race, which means that every win counts for both teams. The Los Angeles Dodgers have a comfortable lead in the NL West over the second place Arizona Diamondbacks, but the Dodgers are not taking anything for granted. The top sports betting sites are interested to see how Jon Lester pitches for the Red Sox in this game. Lester is a key piece of that Boston pitching staff who has been just above average as of late. The Dodger have played well at home as of late, but the Red Sox have been red hot on the west coast.

My Pick: Boston Red Sox

Saturday – Oakland Athletics @ Baltimore Orioles

The online sports betting sites know that the AL West pennant race is not over despite the fact that the Oakland Athletics have fallen to one a half games behind the Texas Rangers in the standings. The battle for the AL West pennant went down to the last game of the season in 2012 and it could do that again in 2013. The Baltimore Orioles used to have a strong position in the AL wild card race, but Baltimore has fallen to four games back in the wild card race and desperately needs wins to get back into contention. Baltimore has had problems winning as of late and those problems may show up against the Athletics.

My Pick: Baltimore Orioles

Saturday – Atlanta Braves @ St. Louis Cardinals

The Atlanta Braves are the only team in the NL East with a winning record. When you team that up with the fact that the Braves also have the best record in baseball, then you get a sizeable lead in the NL East. The St. Louis Cardinals are still locked in a three-way battle for the NL Central pennant with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds. The Pirates have a two-game lead over the Cardinals and the birds definitely do not want to allow the bucs to start padding their lead in the pennant race at all.

My Pick: St. Louis Cardinals
