AL Wild Card Race Takes Spotlight This Weekend With AL East Picture Much Clearer Now

The American League East picture has really come in to focus with the Boston Red Sox establishing a 9.5-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays at the top of the division coming out of this past weekend. However, the Rays, Baltimore Orioles, and New York Yankees are all still very much alive in the AL Wild Card race, which is something worth keeping an eye on with all four teams in action this sportsbook reviews weekend.

San Francisco Giants @ New York Yankees

Saturday, 1:05 PM ET

The Yankees will host the reigning World Series champion Giants this weekend, but this team has barely resembles the team that won it all a year ago. San Francisco entered this price per head week at 12 games below .500 despite posting a 38-38 record at home, while the Yankees are actually 13 games above .500 at home despite being 35-40 on the road. On paper that seems like the perfect formula for New York to steal a series, and they have won eight of the last 10 games that Ivan Nova has started. The Giants will counter with Ryan Vogelsong, who has given up at least three earned runs in three-straight starts to add to a 5.73 ERA that is more than a full point higher than his career-average.

MLB Betting Pick: New York Yankees – 150

Baltimore Orioles @ Tampa Bay Rays

Saturday, 1:05 PM ET

The Rays are at the top of the AL Wild Card race and technically still have the best chance to catch Boston regardless of how unlikely that is at this point. Tampa Bay has been excellent at home, but the Orioles have an excellent opportunity to close the gap on the top Wild Card spot and will make it a tough series. Miguel Gonzalez is 2-0 in his last three starts with just one earned run allowed in each of those wins, and he could help Baltimore steal one with Alex Cobb on the mound for the Rays. Tampa Bay has lost each of Cobb’s last four online sports betting starts, and he has given up seven earned runs over his last 11.1 innings of work.

MLB Betting Pick: Baltimore Orioles + 135

Toronto Blue Jays @ Boston Red Sox

Saturday, 7:10 PM ET

Perhaps the biggest difference between this year’s Boston team and last year is manager John Farrell, who has provided a strong presence since leaving the Blue Jays to lead the Red Sox. Farrell will look to move Boston one step closer to clinching an AL East title when he sends Clay Buchholz to the mound on Saturday, where he will look to stay undefeated. Buchholz is 11-0 with a 1.51 ERA, and has given up just one earned run in 11 innings over consecutive live betting wins since coming off the DL. Toronto has been the most disappointing team in the majors all year after being tagged as World Series favorites, and they have lost each of the last three games started by Mark Buehrle.
