2013 MLB Betting: Weekend Preview For Games On Saturday, August 3

The weekend slate at the beginning of August includes some interleague action, and therefore, some games that feature unconventional betting situations fraught with risk.

Game 1: Kansas City Royals @ New York Mets – Saturday, August 3

When surveying the most trusted sports betting sites on the scene, it is prudent to determine in an interleague matchup if one pitcher is more dependable than another. It’s true that New York Met starting pitcher Carlos Torres has a solid 3.13 ERA and allowed just one run in six innings to the Atlanta Braves on July 23. However, Torres got roughed up for eight runs on July 28 by the Washington Nationals. Moreover, he owns only nine career big-league starts. Kansas City starter Bruce Chen has only three starts to his credit this season, but the veteran has logged 206 starts in his extended career. The Royals have nursed him along this season for fear that he would overextend himself. Chen made 19 relief appearances over the first three months of the season, an average of roughly six game appearances per month, with only one appearance of more than four innings of relief. However, the arrival of the All-Star break convinced the Royals and manager Ned Yost that Chen needed to be allowed back into the starting rotation. Upon being named a starter, Chen has given up three runs in 18 innings of work. He has reattained the consistency that has marked the more recent stretch of his career. He should be able to outpitch Torres on Saturday and lead Kansas City to a win in a battle of two very feeble offenses.

MLB Betting Pick: Kansas City

Game 2: Arizona Diamondbacks @ Boston Red Sox – Saturday, August 3

In bet online reviews, you will be able see that the two starting pitchers in this game are both performing really well. Arizona starter Patrick Corbin owns a gleaming 2.24 ERA. He has lowered his ERA by a quarter of a run in the month of July. He began the month with a 2.49 mark. He lowered his ERA by seven hundredths of a run this past Sunday by allowing just one run in eight innings against the San Diego Padres. Boston starter Felix Doubront has a 3.78 ERA, but his ERA was 4.88 several weeks ago. Doubront has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last 10 starts. Sportsbook lines will respect how good Corbin is as a pitcher, but they will gravitate to the Red Sox because Boston is hitting the ball better right now. Corbin’s dazzling performance this past Sunday did not lead to a win. Arizona was shut out by an emergency starter (Tyson Ross of San Diego) and will probably not do much damage against Doubront. Take Boston here.

MLB Betting Pick: Boston

Game 3: Cleveland Indians @ Miami Marlins – Saturday, August 3

A pay per head bookie service that takes business on this game will strongly lean to the Indians. Miami might have won a weekend series from the Pittsburgh Pirates at the end of July, but Cleveland is on a roll. The Indians swept away the Texas Rangers over the past weekend and are just one game out of the second wild card spot in the American League, right on the heels of the Baltimore Orioles. Miami will have a hard time winning this contest.

MLB Betting Pick: Cleveland
