Novak Djokovic successfully defended his title Sunday in the Shanghai Masters 1000 2013 to win the final to Juan Martin del Potro 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (3 ) in two hours.

The Serb had won the China Open last week winning the final to Rafael Nadal. Also won two tournaments last year and now has won 20 straight games in China.

The Argentine del Potro was champion of the U.S. Open in 2009.

Djokovic lost its top spot in the world ranking to Nadal this week and remains in second place despite winning the title in Shanghai.

“You are a great person and a better player on the court ,” Djokovic said the Argentine during the awards ceremony . ” I’m sorry you lost today. ‘ll Also deserve this trophy.”

” What I can say … I try to be nice ,” he said smiling before embracing his opponent .

Del Potro was trying to win his first Masters in your third attempt. He came from a big win in the semifinals over the world number one , Nadal , beating the Spanish so Nadal said : “Rarely played against someone of similar level.”

But del Potro showed that returns to the limelight after a wrist injury cut short his career after winning the U.S. Open four years ago. He’s back to fifth in the world ranking , his best position in three years, and in 2013 has beaten Djokovic , Nadal and Andy Murray .

“I think I’m playing even better than for many years,” said the Argentine. “I’ve had good experiences in my carrerea this year. Could not win a Grand Slam as in 2009 , but came to end in the Masters level . Already won three tournaments. Them beat the best , which for me is fantastic ” .

Djokovic started on the right foot and to take the lead 5-0 in the first set seemed to be a walk.

But in the second chapter of the Colt began to connect his serve and paste the same items that used to sweep Nadal in the semifinals.

The Argentine looked tired in the third set . The referee, Damien Dumusois , warned her to hurry to play between one point and another .
